Motoring news doesn't come hotter than this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed line up. Starting as a small festival in Lord March's sprawling West Sussex estate, the event has grown dramatically in the last 10 years, attracting the biggest players in the motoring world. With a new motor show event this year, the event is expected to attract in excess of 150,000 visitors.

Jaeger-LeCoultre is today widely regarded as one of the most innovative players in the watch making industry. Antoine LeCoultre founded his first workshop in 1833 in the small Swiss mountain town of Le Sentier, located in the Vallée de Joux. Jaeger-LeCoultre acknowledges its geographical location as a significant component of the pioneering watchmaker's success. Le Sentier was frequently cut off from the outside world by severe snow storms during long and harsh winters. But, with a great of ingenuity and a little iron from the local mines, some great and incredibly inventive watches were made.

A few decades later, in 1866 to be exact, Antoine LeCoultre and his son decided to bring together all the aspects of a watch's production under one roof. And to enable all of these activities to be able to function properly, a steam driven machine was installed to operate all the necessary tools. LeCoutlre & Cie was born. Because of this innovative approach to the production of watches, the factories in Le Sentier soon became affectionately known of as the 'Grande Maison' of the Vallée de Joux.

The other half of the Jaeger-LeCoultre story begins in Paris in 1903.

Edmond Jaeger designed an ultra-thin caliber, and he challenged Swiss watchmakers to manufacture these. It was Jacques-David LeCoultre, Antoine's grandson, who took up the challenge and succeeded. The LeCoultres brought their exceptional watch making craft skills, while Jaeger, a brilliant designer, gave their joint productions a distinctive style that is the unmistakable Jaeger-LeCoultre label. This partnership gave rise to a set of horological wonders,Cartier sales discount sale, and then in 1937 the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand itself.

Both independently and together these two men forged relationships with some very well known creators of luxury watches. From 1902, and for some thirty years thereafter, LeCoultre & Cie produced watch movements for Patek Philippe of Geneva. Before Jaeger and LeCoultre began working together, Jaeger already had amongst his clients the famous designer Cartier. In 1907 a contract was signed in which it was agreed that Jaeger,Cartier original, LeCoultre & Cie would exclusively produce Cartier's creations.

In 1907 the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 145 set the record for being the thinnest movement at 1.38 mm. But over the years there have been many, many more achievements and distinctions that have greatly influenced the evolution of watches and their production. Jaeger-LeCoultre have filed over two hundred patents and have developed more than a thousand different calibres. It is not surprising then that the luxury Jaeger-LeCoultre watches are considered by connoisseurs to be among the very best in the world.

History of a Famous Diamond - The Hope Diamond

One of the most famous diamonds in history, the Hope diamond, came from India and weighed 112 3/16 carats when it was acquired around 1642 by French merchant Jean Baptiste Tavernier, who was struck by its "beautiful violet" color. He sold it to the King of France, Louis XIV, who had it re-cut to a 67 1/8 carat stone which royal inventories thereafter listed as the Blue Diamond of the Crown of France. The blue diamond passed through ownership by French and British royalty, famed jeweler Pierre Cartier, and U.S. socialites before it was purchased by jeweler Harry Winston along with the 94.8 carat Star of the East diamond, 1949. In 1958, Winston donated the Hope diamond to the Smithsonian Institution, where it quickly became a star attraction.

Resetting and re-cuttings over the centuries reduced the Hope diamond to its present 45.52 carats, 40% of its original size. The Hope Diamond was long believed to have been cut from the French Blue, but this remained unconfirmed until a three-dimensional leaden model of the latter was recently rediscovered in the archives of the French Natural History Museum in Paris. Previously, the dimensions of the French Blue had been known only from two drawings made in 1749 and 1789; although the model slightly differs from the drawings in some details, these details are identical to features of the Hope Diamond, allowing CAD technology to digitally reconstruct the French Blue around the re-cut stone.

Many superlatives have been used to describe the hope diamond as a "superfine deep blue", often comparing it to the color of a fine sapphire "blue of the most beautiful blue sapphire". As colored diamond expert Stephen Hofer points out, blue diamond similar to the Hope can be shown by colorimetric measurements to be grayer than blue sapphires. In 1996, it was examined by using of proprietary scale, graded it fancy deep grayish blue. Visually, the gray modifier is so dark that it produces an "inky" effect appearing almost blackish-blue in incandescent light. Current photographs of the Hope utilize high-intensity light sources that tend to maximize the brilliance of gemstones.

Even jewelers who may have handled the Hope Diamond were not spared from its reputed malice: The insanity and suicide of Jacques Colot, who supposedly bought it from Eliason, and the financial ruin of the jeweler Simon Frankel, who bought it from the Hope family, were linked to the stone. But although he is documented as a French diamond dealer of the correct era, Colot has no recorded connection with the stone, and Frankel's misfortunes were in the midst of economic straits that also ruined many of his peers.

Grape Seed Extract And Pine Bark Extract

Grapes have been prized as food and medicine for thousands of years and were utilized by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. Grape seed extract comes from the seeds of grapes, usually obtained from winemakers.

Vitamin E, flavonoids, linoleic acid, and OPCs are highly concentrated in grape seeds. These compounds can also be found in lower concentrations in the skin of the grape. OPCs are also found in grape juice and wine, but in lower concentrations. Resveratrol is another of grape's compounds which is related to OPCs and found mainly in the skins. Resveratrol has become very popular as an antioxidant and is being studied in connection with a variety of diseases.

Pine bark extract is made from the bark of the maritime pine tree (Pinus pinaster), which contains naturally occurring chemicals called proanthocyanidins. The maritime pine is native to the western Mediterranean, with a range extending over Portugal, Spain, France,Cartier lighters, Italy, and Morocco.

In the winter of 1535, a French explorer named Jacques Cartier found his ship ice-bound in the St. Lawrence River, in what is now Quebec. Having no fruits or vegetables,Cartier bracelet love, the crew became ill with scurvy, a disease resulting from vitamin C deficiency. Several had already died when a Native American told them how to prepare a tea made from tree bark. Many crew members recovered and attributed miraculous qualities to the tea. Although both sources can be used interchangeably, for several valid reasons OPCs extracted from grape seeds have emerged as the preferred source.

Besides, in regards to the free radical scavenging activities of OPCs, studies by Professor Masquelier have demonstrated that the grape seed extract is substantially more potent and effective compared to the pine bark extract. Why? Only the grape seed extract contains the gallic esters of proanthocyanidins in particular: proanthocyanidin B2-3'-0-gallate. These compounds are the most active free radical scavenging OPCs. They are not present in the pine bark extract but they are found in the OPCs extract from the grape seed.
